Living in the city comes with its own set of creature comforts and luxuries; however we tend to gradually lose touch with Nature and the Wonders it has to offer.

 

One such natural phenomenon which tends to bedazzle its spectators is the dance of the fireflies! The little Beetles with their bio-luminescence flash their underbelly lights in a sequence to attract mates or prey. The bushes and trees are hub for this mating frenzy and closely resemble a lit up Christmas Tree and this is a Sight to See!

 

Join Canvas N Chrome as we head off into the wilderness not too far away from the Hill station of Lonavala in our search for the Mating Fireflies and the Dazzling Spectacle on offer in the first weekend of June.

Detailed Itinerary: 

​

Saturday

​

• Board Sinhagad Express (Train no - 11009) from Dadar/Thane/Kalyan to Lonavala (~2.5hrs)

• Instructions & Safety Briefing (~0.5hrs)

• Hike/Sumo as per choice from Lonavala to Rajmachi village via Tungarli dam (~4.5/1.5hrs - 16kms)

• Take in the beauty of the route lit up by dazzling fireflies

• Refreshments, Dinner, & Rest on reaching Rajmachi

• Night Trail to ancient Shiva temple for another view of fireflies spectacle (~1.0hrs)

Sunday 

 

• Morning bell would be sounded at 05.30hrs Sharp

• Head for sightseeing to fort Srivardhan (~2.5hrs)

• Refreshments & Breakfast at Rajmachi village (~1.0hrs)

• Trekkers Hike back down to Kondhane village (~3.0hrs)

• Refreshments & Lunch at Kondhane (~1.5hrs)

• Rickshaw to Karjat station (~0.5hrs)

• Tentative arrival at Karjat – 16.00hrs

• People opting for taxi / self ride / drive will have lunch at Rajmachi and depart for Lonavala in time for departure of Deccan Express (Train no - 11008) @ 16.30hrs

 Important Notes:

 

• The Hike/Trek is graded as Medium difficulty because of an easy trail from Lonavala to Rajmachi and the slightly challenging descend from Rajmachi to Karjat; Endurance grade is High as it is a 16km hike from Lonavala to Rajmachi and a 8km descend from Rajmachi to Karjat.

• For those opting for the Sumo, the Difficulty as well as Endurance Grades are Easy as there is minimum hiking/trekking involved.

• Wearing full clothes (Track pants + Full sleeve Shirt/Tshirt) is advisable – Prevents cuts & bruises while walking through the forest & also protects from insect bites.

• Track pants advisable – Jeans can get uncomfortable on treks & also tend to soak & retain water if it rains, avoid as far as possible

• Trekking/Sports shoes advisable – Covered feet provide safety from stubbing your toes on rocks, etc and also from insect/snake bite.

• Extra Floaters/Footwear advisable – Sports shoes tend to open up/tear during treks through rain & having an extra pair of floaters helps.

• A sturdy & comfortable haversack advisable – To stock all the gear & keep hands free while hiking.

• Packing of all essentials in polythene advisable – To protect from getting wet in the rain.

• A good torch is compulsory – for the night trek

• 2 liters of water is compulsory.

 

Our Belief System:

 

• Possession and/or consumption of Alcohol will not be permitted & flouting of this basic rule will lead to immediate expulsion from the group.

• Smoking will only be permitted after consultation with the Leader and the person will have to move away from the group to smoke. Smoking will only be permitted while we stop at a clearing and not otherwise.

• The leader’s decision will be final and binding on all members. No Arguments will be entertained.

• Each member will be responsible for his/her own safety and baggage.

• Please do not wear any jewelry or gold chains/rings.

• Please do not litter, we believe in the saying, “Leave only footprints, Take back only memories”
