Fireflies or Lightning Bugs are insects belonging to the Beetle order. With the rampant developments around the cities; these dazzlers are now pushed away to fringes of the extended city where the trees/shrubs still exist.

The small window in time just before the rains arrive gives us the opportunity to witness a beautiful spectacle of dazzling fireflies. It’s the mating season for these fireflies & as a result thousands of them light up around trees and shrubs making it a rare and beautiful sight.

​

Join  Canvas N Chrome as head off to an Obscure & Uncrowded village to try and capture this scene in our mind and camera if possible while enjoying the rustic village experience.

Note: This event can be considered as Child Friendly - so bring along the little ones & introduce them to the outdoors!

 

 

 

Detailed Itinerary:

Saturday

​

• Board the train to Karjat from Central Railway - CST (3:53 p.m.) / Dadar (4:06 p.m.) / Kurla (4:12p.m.) / Ghatkopar (4.17 p.m.) / Mulund (4.28 p.m) / Thane (4.32 p.m) / Dombivali (4.45 p.m) / Kalyan (4.53 p.m) 

• Meet at Karjat Station (extreme CST End Ticket counter) @ 5.45PM

• In case you miss the Karjat Local - one can take the 12125 Mumbai Pune Pragati Express from CST/Dadar/Thane at 4.25/4.37/4.54 p.m respectively

• Get on board our Pre-Booked Rickshaw & Enjoy the ride to the base village (1.0hrs)

• Refreshments & Dinner @ the village followed by a short informative session on the Fireflies

• Night Trail to view fireflies spectacle around the village (~3.0hrs)

• Note: There is NO Trekking involved - we intend to take you on a short Walk/Hike over a safe tarred road for around maximum 4kms one way to enjoy the Spectacle of Fireflies

• Overnight at our village Home Stay with comfortable bedding & the convenience of a fan to beat the heat

Sunday 

​

• Morning bell would be sounded at 07.00hrs 

• Refreshments & Breakfast at our Homestay (~1.5 hrs)

• Bid Adieu to our host & board our Pre-Booked Rickshaw & head back to Karjat Railway Station (~1.0hrs)

• Tentative time of departure from Karjat at 10.45 a.m

• Trip ends

 Important Notes:

 

• There is no Trekking involved in this event & hence children & families open to the idea of walking/hiking are most welcome 

• The walk/hike is graded as Easy because of an easy trail/walk on tar road which leads to the forested patch where we can view the Fireflies; Endurance grade is Medium as we will be walking around for about 3 hours.

• Wearing full clothes (Track pants + Full sleeve Shirt) is advisable – Prevents cuts & bruises while walking through the forest & also protects from insect bites.

• Track pants advisable – Jeans can get uncomfortable on treks & also tend to soak & retain water if it rains, avoid as far as possible

• Trekking/Sports shoes advisable – Covered feet provide safety from stubbing your toes on rocks, etc and also from insect/snake bite.

• Extra Floaters/Footwear advisable – Sports shoes tend to open up/tear during walks through rain & having an extra pair of floaters helps.

• A sturdy & comfortable backpack/haversack advisable – To stock all the gear & keep hands free while walking.

• Packing of all essentials in polythene advisable – To protect from getting wet in the rain.

• A good torch is compulsory – for the night walk

• Please carry a water bottle from home - refill option is available for free in our home stay & this prevents addition of plastic bottle trash in a pristine environment

• Carrying Mosquito repellent gel/spray/patches would be recommended

• Carrying at least 2 liters of water is advisable.

 

Our Belief System:

 

• Possession and/or consumption of Alcohol will not be permitted & flouting of this basic rule will lead to immediate expulsion from the group.

• Smoking will only be permitted after consultation with the Leader and the person will have to move away from the group to smoke. Smoking will only be permitted while we stop at a clearing and not otherwise.

• The leader’s decision will be final and binding on all members. No Arguments will be entertained.

• Each member will be responsible for his/her own safety and baggage.

• Please do not wear any jewelry or gold chains/rings.

• Please do not litter, we believe in the saying, “Leave only footprints, Take back only memories”
